It is possible to find a pre-1908 Winchester with a proof on the receiver, but almost nothing in plain sight about the barrel. In that situation, I'd personally initially Examine the serial quantity for an R&R, and pull the forend to check The underside of the barrel.

In a simple alternative concern, making new parts from scratch ,Should the requested substitution aspect with appropriate configuration, is now while in the factory will not be a viable selection
At what point was the “Circle VP” for “Considered Proved” stamp placed on the underside on the barrel–adhering to the large load testing, the “VP” being used following the visual inspection of the barrel? The “VP” is uncovered on just about every 1892 and 1894 barrel I have noticed from the beginning to the tip of production, bridging the day for the looks from the “WP”. Then why the addition of the “WP”—I acknowledge I am no history buff, just curious concerning the reasoning to the “WP”.
